What do you expect will be true in your life in 5 years, 10 years?
I heard Dr. Peter Attia once say if you want to kick butt at 80 you can't be average at 50. That quote stuck with me......
Before I reached my 50th, I hiked Mt. Leconte with my teenage son and a couple of other guys about his age. What's striking is how wide the age gap is coming up and down the mountain. It's a steep rocky climb to the top at 6500 feet elevation. Some hikers are in their 70s, even 80. Some are elementary school age with their parents. It's a tough hike and I witness several people who look like they bit off more than they can chew. The struggle on their face is evident and a potential heart attack looks like a possibility!
Every year I go hike to that summit at least once or twice. Several times with my daughter Savannah Breedlove, sometimes by myself. Last year I hiked it twice in one day, about 24 miles, and I plan to do that again in a few weeks.
My future self will still be hiking that trail. I'll be learning and I will be in love with my wife. I hope I'll be a grandparent. I'll still be contributing because I need a purpose and I'll keep trying to be better at whatever I do.
Who will you be?
